The Sanitary Landfill site at Kydonias, was constructed in 2008 for the disposal of organic waste and is currently operated by a private contractor.  It covers  a total area of ​​39 acres with a landfill capacity of 13,346 m³. 

There are plans for a small composting plant to be set up at the site, which will process the green waste of the island as well as the biowaste. The capacity of the unit is estimated at 60tn.
